Alpine & Mountains
Victoria’s magnificent Alpine National Park covers some 646,000 ha across the “roof” of Victoria protecting many fragile ecosystems and the top of our mountain ranges. Covered by snow for many months over winter and early spring, this is a harsh environment and plants and animals have developed some amazing strategies to survive.
We visit during the warmer months when wildflowers bloom in the mountains and you can enjoy cooler temperatures than major cities. There is a rich Aboriginal and European history to learn about, a vast array of nature experiences, fresh mountain air, walking trails and time to sit quietly and absorb the peace of the Australian Alps.
Thankfully large areas of the Alpine National Park were not impacted at all by recent summer bushfires. Most places we visit are as beautiful as ever!
